Flight Line
We put the "O" in AOT

Thursday, Feb. 09, 2006 :: ggrr ::

I got a little annoyed at one of the guys at work today. We actually had 5 mechanics working on one plane for awhile today because it was all that we had in the shop. 2 engine, 1 cabin, 1 fuselage, and 1 landing gear. I was one of the two on the engine. I started out by checking oil and fuel filter. When I was done with that I did a few other things on the list that I knew how to do while the other person keep looking over the cylinders and exhaust. So then I decided I could lubricate the flight control hinges because no one had started the wings yet. So I just grabbed some "power lube" yep thats what it's called, and sprayed the hinges on the ailerons, and the other guy worked the engine said "I should stay on the engine and bleh bleh" I responded with I didn't know what things he had finished on the list because he hadn't signed anything off yet. And he responded with "well you should just ask me." So I thought to myself, I need to ask you to sign off your work... what if you had wondered off like you do so often and no one knows where you went... do I just stand here and do nothing because I need to stay on the engine... grr I was just freakin lubing the hinges for goodness sake.
Anyhow, today was very cloudy. Cool and windy- The sun tried to burn through during lunch, but the cloud cover was victorious. No rain for the actual valley though. It looked like rain south of work mostly over the san tan mountains. I'm seriously looking to get my own roll around tool box SOON. I'm tired of lugging my top box around (it's about 60 lbs right now and I've run out of room inside).
And I sent out a letter to my masher bud Smash last night after work... so be checking your mail dude =)

Tuesday, Feb. 07, 2006 :: easy work ::

well, I'm happy to say that the last two days of work just flew by. I kinda was on my own to start the airframe inspection and the day just went by quickly. I've decided that I need to wear a hat or bandana to work. I do like my hair, but it seems that the airplanes like it more because they keep trying to rip it out a few strands at a time, lol. I've been searching the internet for prices on roll around tool boxes because I really need one. Carrying around my top box gets old and it's so heavy I sometimes get a little light headed carrying ti around. Plus it would be nice to be able to pull open a drawer to find a tool instead of pulling everything out of the top box to get to the bottom (where inevitably the tool that I need has magically moves to). Then of course I'm still saving for a car, which now I really want a truck. And if I'm gonna pay money for my ride... I might as well get what I want! I found out after a quick call from the boyfriend =P that we're going to the renaissance fair this weekend. And that we're going to at least 2 more hockey games this season. This time I'll get to see the "well known" Anehiem Mighty Ducks. I'm growing impatient for next Sunday. My favorite show, Grey's Anatomy, left me with a cliff hanger... and I need to know what happens. Yes, it's sad I'm so hooked on the show. It doesn't stem as deep as my obsession with law and order though. Anyhow, I'm being shooed off the computer, so I shall leave for the time being... evil grin

Monday, Feb. 06, 2006 :: the unsuper bowl ::

Well, most people will probably not have anything to say about the superbowl, especially if you're a seahawks fan. Congrats to the steelers...but man that game was a big yawner. I don't think I watched more than 20 minutes of it. None of the adults at the party were fans of either team, so there was no rivalry or shouting matches. Most of the party was spent chatting and laughing. We caught maybe 40% of the commercials. Though I'm not really bothered that I missed any of it, but I am glad I got to be at the party. Brett's friend's girlfriend was there (she also went with us to the concert). I found out she's in nursing school and that she owns horses. She said I could come ride with her on a weekend. coolness. Time for me to be heading off to work now.

Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 :: wednesday's follies ::

so I have yet to tell you about the hillarious day at work on Wednesday. Jason is from the Carribbean and speaks softly and sometimes gets hung on a word because he previously spoke French. And I, am not the most verbal speaker either (I'm quiet). So the other guys in the shop commented during break that my cheeks were all pink from working out in the sun all day. So I went in the hangar after break to see what Jason was working on, and I made the comment that I was all pinky... some how or rather he heard "I'm kinky" which made him do a double take and ask if what he heard was right... Then a commercial on the radio was taking about the tax returns for mothers. And I made the comment that, "my mom got ripped off with that." and all he heard was "my mom got ripped" which I found out means drunk. So I had to verify that "she got ripped off because they started that the year after I turned 18 and was inelgible." And even after that, I was talking to Duane and Jason about the warrior outside and how the wings still needed to be removed. I said I would need the jacks to jack up the airplane and support the wings (etc) and I kept jabbering my ideas and then I slipped and said "I am going to jack off the airplane." I heard it immediately and doubled over with laughter. Jason had to walk away he was laughing so hard... then I explained to Duane the other mishaps Jason and I had. So duane piped in "So you're kinky, you're mom is drunk, and you're going to jack off an airplane." well, I guess to some that may be in their kinky category.
108 days without rain now, and still nothing in sight. This weekend I want to go see Underworld: Evolution and then me and the man are going to the Ompah (ah ha)Superbowl Party, lol. Anyway, it's dinnertime now! Chicken n rice =)

Thursday, Feb. 02, 2006 :: rock out ::

sooooo tired. today is a day I wish I could have a desk job. It's going to be a long day with maybe 4 hours of sleep under my belt. I still want to try to get out and play with the community band tonight. I may need to sneak a nap in for a few hours after work.

The concert very rocked! Lenny was just the "opening" act for aerosmith and only got to play like six or seven songs, but I can still say I've seen him live! The concert was awesome except for all the bimbos that surrounded us. Like the six 40-year olds yelling for Lenny to "take it off" and "we love you". Lenny actually went out into the audience during his last song and walked around. To which I thought, the bimbos in front of me probably wished they had paid the extra hundred dollars to get floor tickets. We even had a row of fake blond bimbos a few rows down... trying to shake their thing... and ended up shaking a whole lot more. Someone should tell them to dress their age too... you can still be sexy by dressing your age... but the tight tshirts with red, sparkly letters saying "flirt" is not something a forty something year old should be wearing. The concert was supposed to start at 730, but Lenny didn't get on stage until 8... and then aerosmith took forever and a day to get out as well. Brett and I ended up leaving during the encore, "Back in the Saddle". But, because we did- there was no line what-so-ever to ger out and we got out with no stopping. Which is good since I had a 50 minute drive ahead of me...

Wednesday, Feb. 01, 2006 :: creepy crawlies ::

Well, here I am at 6am in the morning for yet another day of work and eating some yummy toaster strudel. Gosh, it seems so odd to think that I'm actually part of productive society (no offense to those not working, I just mean I'm not wasting away in school anymore!). Yesterday, I spent all of my working time outside in the canni plane again. My main objective was to get out the rudder pedal assembly... it hasn't been accomplished yet. But with Jason's great assistance I got out one of the landing gear and can pop out the second one this morning. I had used the air hose to try and blow out any unwanted creatures (spiders - run Smash!) The cobwebs, those were very strong. They actually held up against the shop air, which I think is 120 psi? We had our hands up in both access panels and didn't seem to find any creepy crawlies. Though after we had removed the right gear, Jason found an old desimated carcass of a spider. Which I believe to be that of a black widow, shudder. The airport is out by the mountains and is not in a fully developed area (we also have coyotes running around). Anyway, so there around... and where there is one spider, there is bound to be many, many more... Once the weather gets warmer, I will be double checking where I stick my hands!
Last night I kind of had a funny little dream... I can hardly remember all the details. Just that I was dating Johnny Depp, lol. Kinda weird considering he's like 43 or something. But, I ended up finding that after school's graduation he started to re-date my roommate, Lorraine. She would be so thrilled to know that, haha. Yes, I was bitter... but it was just a dream.
Tonight is the Aerosmith/Lenny Kravitz concert. I will be getting back quite late and heading staright to bed, hehe... Which means to you, no entry tonight.

Monday, Jan. 30, 2006 :: job salaries ::

I saw on aol's today banner talking about posh jobs with not so posh salaries and just glam jobs. One that I looked at was pilot's salary where they show 92K-115K. LOL, what a joke... then in little letter print it states that your salary may be greatly reduced due to company size, years experience, seniority, etc... DUH, isn't it always that way at any company no matter what the job. I can tell you that the pilots I know from Purdue- with a bachelors degree could only find jobs with US Airways flying dash 8s for around 30K... so AOL can shove it.
And another job listed on their glam jobs was an auto technician, wtf? There was an advertisement for the autoshop down the road offering 50K-75K for technicians... and the guys at chandler who have 30 some odd years experience in aviation are making $36K... do I see something wrong with this picture??? hell yes

Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 :: hockey wars ::

for some reason on saturday I didn't get around to eating any food until 3pm. My head had been hurting for a bit, but well I know why... because I was playing guild wars, hehe. I took my monk post searing, my elementalist and mesmer are level 6 and my warrior is still level 4. So anyway my head was pounding and my stomach wasn't happy. I had a small sandwich and laid down for a bit before we headed to the hockey game (pictures to follow). After the game I felt on the verge of puking on the ride home, so needless to say that I went straight to bed when we got back. My boyfriend and his brother proceeded to eat pizza and get drunk (in his words). That was around 11pm and I got out of bed at 11 am this morning. We continued playing guild wars more and went out to get subway for lunch (yum). We brought it home and had lunch and a movie. We watched an A&E/Mtv documentary on the paraplegic olympics called Murderball (wheelchair rugby). These guys are brutal. They have specially made aluminum chair designed for crashing into one another. It's cool it gives a little background into how they became disabled and how they do more now than when they were "able bodied." It also shows a guy injuried in a motocross accident just 6 months after in physical therapy and how his eyes lite up when he saw one of the team members and the team playing on tv. When he got in the chair for rugy playing, it was hard to get him out of it when they had to go. So I would recommend it =) small update on the desert country: 103 days without rain. We've had 0.17 inches of rain since october. This is typically our monsoon season, so if we don't get anything in the next 60 days... we're in trouble. Parts of washington have had over 50 inches of rain. Last year was the opposite, thank goodness. Supposedly we have enough water in reserve that we can make it 3 years without any rain, but with all the booming housing market who knows...
on a more somber note, I found out that one of the few friends, Matt, from high school that I am still in contact with was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma. We reconnected about a year ago when we found out we were both A&P mechanics. I don't ask that you add him to your prayers... because I find it somewhat rude to assume that everyone is of your religion. But if you have a spare breath and 5 seconds and you wanna say "get well soon, chud"- that I will be grateful for. well, I'm off to bed! enjoy the pics

Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 :: horse hockey ::

so I found I have cousins living in the phoenix area. They're not close to my age though- I'm guessing mid to late thirties, but still family and them seemed very down to earth and chill-out with-able, lol. I also found out they have horses- sweet. So after we had our dinner and their reminescient tales of traveling and family things we headed out of the restaraunt and my grandma's sister and her husband got into my cousins' (first cousins once removed- is what my mom says is their actual title) truck, I asked if I might be able to come visit them and see their horses. And they cheerfully agreed.
So now I'm off to go watch another hockey game- but first some fooooooooooood!

Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 :: planes, trains and auto.... eh maybe not ::

well for those who read my diary in their daily ritual, I'm sorry I didn't write yesterday. For some reason unbeknownst (that's a real word, I just don't know if I spelled it right) to me, I was hella tired and went to bed at 9pm- pretty much after dinner was done and I had cleaned up some. It did me good thought. I woke up this morning a minute before my alarm went off, and I wasn't tired at all! And that's good considering I get up at 530am. The flaps, actuators, and toe brake are on the arrow now (go me). I stripped the old paint off the spinner. It was quite an all day exercise being that I had to apply stripper four separate times to get off all the paint, and this isn't your normal household paint stripper. This is the aviation industrial strength airplane paint stripper that smells like the chemicals of a woman's perm. Youck, I know... something else actually smells that bad. I tried to put on a zinc-chromate (corosion protection) primer, but the wind was just strong enough that if I spray the primer 6 inched from the surface it would turn at a 90 degree angle away from the surface now matter which direction you came from, lol. The last hour of work almost felt like it should be a friday. Three planes came back with pilot squaks. Anyway, I found out that next week I will be outside working on 565- a warrior that is our canni part plane. I'm going to take off anything and eveything that is salvagible... including the wings, vertical and horzontal fins. I'm glad the weekend is coming up again.

Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 :: musical furniture ::

mom came out last night as I was sitting watch the tv after rearranging the livingroom. She came out and said, "interesting." I guess she's not used to the whole "the couch isn't against the wall" thing. I think the livingroom seems much cozier and inviting now than when all the furniture was shoved against the walls and you had to scream across the room to the other people. hehe. Of course the focal point is still the 37 or so inch tv (which is my fav spot for watching law and order)-(and since I don't have a tv in my "bedroom", that's where I watch it). Both my mom and grandma were up this morning when my alarm clock got me up for work. I asked grandma how she liked the new arrangement, and she said that she did like it. So I'll just wait and see whether or not I have to move it back tonight. Now it's off to work.

Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 :: the furniture escapade ::

today was a bit up in the air. The maintenance "director" (the guy with the office who still does real maintenance), was gone for the first few hours of work. He had to drive up to Globe to change out a magneto. So I didn't have any instruction on what was going on with the damamged flaps. I was also waiting for the seals for the toe brakes and still waiting on the the actuator for the landing gear. So I tried to help out where I could. When the "boss" finally got in, I confirmed what the plan was for the flaps, and later found out that the actuator was already in... I guess they don't tell you, you're supposed to check it. Hello, ya should have told me that. When I asked for the clevis bolts the guy brought them to me, why should it be different this time. It wasn't on the parts board as even being ordered yet... anoyhow, I finally got the nose pan on the plane in for an annual. It was quite a fight to do so. The fit was so tight that part of the cover actually cracked, but oh well it will have no effect on the flight... and it's not that noticible. It took Terry and I nearly 2 hours to get the whole contraption on. The side bolts didn't want to line up and the cover plates didn't fit and the bolt holes didn't line up with the nut plates. It was a total mess.
Grandma's sister is visiting us Thursday, so we're cleaning the carpet for the first time in a year and a half (cleaning does not mean vacuum, my grandma vacuum's 2 times a week, lol). I've been trying to persuad my mom and grandma to let me rearrange the livingroom. It's always felt so spreadout to be because they have all the furniture shoved up against the walls. We have a coffee table that is used as a side table. It feels more like a pass through room than a room where people gather to talk to one another. So they agreed that tonight I can rearrange the furniture and if they don't like it I will put it back. Now I'm off to go buy kitty litter, woowoo

Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 :: workin and playin ::

I woke up this morning to white noise at 5:49. Crap, my power switch had been turned off while I was gone this weekend and had turned off my alarm clock. So I reset the time and alarm last night, but forgot to tune in a radio station. I had 20 less minutes to get ready for work. I decided breakfast would have to be on the go (mcdonalds). I was the first one to work today, again, as always. I found that the saturday crew (of 2) had already started my carpet job in the interior... oh well it's not like carpeting is the most fun job of all, hehe. I reinstalled the right side actuator and removed the toe brake for the co-pilot to "rebuild" it. I found that a seal was a bit over worn so it needed replacing and I asked my boss and he agreed that we could order some. The parts guy came up and said he had another seal from a different brake cylinder that was waiting to be rebuilt, but when I put it in, it was just as bed as the first. So I had to tell him again to order new seals. He is also looking into prices for a "new" actuator for the left side landing gear. I will not put the old one back on, well I guess I could, but I won't sign it off. I also got the flap off the arrow where some speed mods had ripped off. So we're currently debating the actions we should take... replace mods that are gone or repair/replace damaged parts. The damamge is on the flaps which is not a primary control surface so we don't have to worry about balance or anything like that. haha, I just remembered something that happened thursday that was kind of funny. I was working on the wheels and brakes for the arrow and those who works on wheels and brakes know your hands get black from the brake dust, grease, and carbon... so yes my hands were very black, I was talking with jason about something and my nose started to itch- so I itched it- obviously leaving a little blackness behind. And jason said if I wasn't careful my whole nose would be black soon. I laughed and said that I didn't care because I can wash it off when I wash my hands, and I pointed out that hands get dirty when worked with tires (yadda yadda). And he said I should wear gloves when handling tires. And asked if I was aware of preventative maintenance. I replied, Yes for planes... I kind of gave him a "are you serious look" because hello, I'm a mechanic! I supposed to be dirty! lol. It's means I'm doing my job. Now, don't get me wrong. When I'm handling chemicals like hydraulic fluid and MEK, I use gloves... but not for tires. My bf bought me my own set of guild wars CDs, so I have created a monk (who's already level 7), a warrior (level 4), elementalist (level 2), and a mesmer (level 1) since saturday. I gave them all the name Krissallae with different last names hahaha. Though I think I may delete the mesmer and reinvent her with my old charater's name from everquest. Anyway, I'm off for the night!
